hi~ how can i use picture original size?
WordPress Slideshow Gallery v1.0 used but static picture size.. help me..
#2 by finid on September 23, 2009 - 9:24 am
Cool plugin.
Will it clash with other JavaScript like jQuery already in use?
#3 by Ben on September 23, 2009 - 10:43 am
thank you for creating a useful plugin, however once it does come up with failed to install invalid header. Also once you do actually get past this just by going back into plugins finding the plugin in then activating it all it does is make the site blank.
#4 by Antonie Potgieter on September 23, 2009 - 11:13 am
Are you saying that you want the images to be the original width and height inside the slideshow gallery itself?
#5 by Antonie Potgieter on September 23, 2009 - 11:19 am
It will not clash unless the other jQuery based plugin doesn’t use WordPress conventions properly. All plugins should use wp8_enqueue_script to safely enqueue their JavaScript files.

@Ben,
The only way I can really troubleshoot this is if you send me an email with WordPress login so that I can check for you.

After investigating for you, it noticed that you used post & page links/URLs in the “Image URL” field. The “Image URL” field value when saving a slide should link directly to a remote JPG, GIF, PNG, etc… image and not to a post/page containing an image. It has to link directly to an image file. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the plugin. Tried to install and keep getting the following:

I may be totally missing something obvious on this one, but where do I paste slideshow(); ?> if I want to put the slideshow right below the nav bar in my header? Do I paste it just like that, or do I need to add something to the code?
#11 by Quinn on September 24, 2009 - 1:25 am
Never mind. i figured it out. For anyone else who was wondering, it’s in the index.php file right after
#12 by uran1980 on September 24, 2009 - 5:22 am
Why you are use short notation of echo in php. It is bad practice I think.
When I install this plugin it don’t work, because in source code there are <?=. When I replace it on full echo notation plugin start work corectly.
Thanks, and sorry for my inglish.

yes~
and Other questions
After active the big picture, small picture
The Big Picture will appear above the small picture roll.(The overlap of the two pictures will appear)
#14 by finid on September 24, 2009 - 11:16 am
Just installed and tried to activate. However, activation failed because plugin does not have a valid header.
#15 by Antonie Potgieter on September 24, 2009 - 12:25 pm
It is bad practice in the sense that some PHP configurations have the short_open_tag support turned off. In order for the plugin to work, please ensure that you have PHP short_open_tag support turned on in your php.ini file.
#16 by Antonie Potgieter on September 24, 2009 - 12:30 pm
Please explain why you say the plugin does not have a valid header.
#17 by Antonie Potgieter on September 24, 2009 - 1:45 pm
Hi Quinn,
The code to use is
slideshow(); ?>anywhere in your WordPress theme files. If you want to put it in your header, just below your nav bar, you’ll most likely be editing your index.php file. You could edit the header.php file but you wouldn’t want the slideshow gallery to appear on all your posts/pages but rather just on your home page. All the best,
Antonie

I’d like to second the comment from Ben – when activating with my theme (Newpaper 640), only the background of the blog appears.
2nd error is open install, error surrounding foreach()… I forget the page number because it goes away after the first image is added manually.
Also, I’d like to make a feature request to be able to pass a directory to the plugin. If I have 100 photos from my vacation, I’d prefer not to have to set there and manually assign 100 pictures using this tool. Using a directory method, I’d want to display the plugin on Page1and loads whatever images are in Directory A (New York) and display the plugin on Page 2 using Directory B (Paris).
#19 by Reuben on September 25, 2009 - 4:07 am
It’s actually the error that WordPress gives when you try to activate it. I couldn’t get this plugin working either. The exact error is:
The plugin does not have a valid header.
And just that…no other text.

As I explore, currently your plugin does not allow multiple instance of slideshow at the same page or sidebar, do you plane allow it in future and what about more then one gallery fore slideshow.
Thanks.

Will this plugin scale or crop images in any way? It doesn’t seem to be able to view both horizontal and vertically framed pictures without distorting one or the other. Any ideas?
#25 by vikki on September 30, 2009 - 7:33 pm
does not work. Says invalid header
#26 by Antonie Potgieter on September 30, 2009 - 11:10 pm
Do you have PHP short_open_tag support enabled? If you aren’t certain or you are not sure what it is, please consult your hosting provider and ask them to enable PHP short_open_tag on your server for you. It is a simple feature which allows short tags in PHP, for example…
normal code:
< ?php echo 'hello'; ?>short tag code:
< ?= 'hello'; ?>#27 by Michael on October 1, 2009 - 8:42 pm
I have the script installed and I have added a couple of slides to the interface. I added the code to my page and posted it and that comes up fine. However, the images are not being displayed. The thumbnails show up but the main image is just black. Any suggestions as to how I may get the large images to display? Thank you in advance.

Once I enabled “short_open_tag” it worked like a charm! I host a web site with Bluehost and they provided clear instructions on enabling the tag.
Looks great! Thanks!

I installed the plug-in but had to deactivate it because I got errors. you got an easy fix for a non-techie?

You’re wrong in your approach to short_open_tag support. Most users have no control over their hosts, and cannot force them to change. As a result, many people (myself included) will be forced to hand-edit your code to mass replace all the ?= tags.
Any future upgrades will then break, of course. So as a result, I won’t be using your plug-in, because I don’t want to get caught in that cycle.
#31 by Mark Griffin on October 14, 2009 - 8:00 am
I get the invalid header also. I don’t want the hassle of asking my hosting provider to change the php setup, no other plugin requires it, maybe you should review your policy on short open tags?

I get an error when trying to use the Plugins>Install New function to add this plugin to a site… it says the install fails and that the plugin does not have a valid header…
this in a 2.8.4 version.

Do you have PHP short_open_tag support enabled?
Um… if other shortcodes in wordpress work, does this indicate that these ARE enabled?

I’ve tried installing the slideshow both through hard coding and through pasting [slideshow], and it will not show up on my website. The plugin looks great, and I’d really like to use it. Do you have any suggestions for what the problem might be? Thanks a lot!

Hi, Great plugin, I just can’t figure out how to get my drop-down navigation from going behind it. Ideas?

I get this error when I activate – it is the same as another post, but I do not see a folowup – is this this short_open_tag issue?

#39 by short_open_tag on October 26, 2009 - 9:27 pm
Your slideshow is gorgeous, Antoine, but the short code is a shame. To use this plugin, anyone who hasn’t already must either (1) change their php.ini to accept short_open_tag or (2) change all the instances of it in the plugin php.
Short code is bad form, because it violates valid XML markup. Most have put it aside as we have moved forward with XHTML.
Still, repairing the code throughout the free plugin isn’t too much work for a skilled user considering all the hours of effort you put into building it. It really is gorgeous, Antoine. Apart from teh short code, well done!

Hello,
After enabling the plug-in, when I go to the plugin administration, the configuration pages are blank …
Does this plugin require mySQL v5 to run properly?
Thanks,

Hey Antonie,
I like your plugin — it reminds me of the BBC image gallery and it looks really nice. Always good to have non-Lightbox options that have advanced functionality. One question: I want to create a number of different slideshows in my site. Is there an easy way to do this?
#42 by ArnZ on November 5, 2009 - 2:31 am
Hi and great work for the Slideshow.
I wonder if you could help: I’ve installed it on the homepage of a site and although it’s all groovy in FF, it seems to bug in IE7 and IE8 (Win) with some pictures. Apparently it doesn’t resize some of them or at least not correctly… you can test it here and compare with diff browsers => www(dot)delphinebarreau(dot)fr/wp/ [don't want link to be activated - ideally could you remove from post? thx]
Thanks in advance for your help.
A.

This plugin is not working in Internet Explorer 7. Any thoughts?

Hi there like the plugin. Just integrating it and seem to have an issue with it jumping a slide so instead of running 1,2,3,4,5 it goes 1,3,5,2,4
Any ideas????
Cheers

Hey Antonie,
I really like your plugin, and would like to use it on a couple sites I’m building, however I need to be able to have multiple galleries. You mention in the comments above that that functionality will be available in a future release. Any idea of the timeframe for that update?
