WordPress Slideshow Gallery v1.0.5

This release of the WordPress slideshow gallery plugin should improve some of the features overall and also adds some new functionality. Here is a list of changes…

  • IMPROVED
    WordPress 2.9 draggable meta boxes.
  • BUG FIX
    wp_redirect() fatal error in dashboard.
  • ADDED
TinyMCE plugin button to add shortcodes.
  • ADDED
“exclude” parameter to work in conjunction with the “post_id” parameter to exclude attachments by order.
  • CHANGE
    Changed #wrapper to #slideshow-wrapper on the front-end.

I hope that you enjoy this new release! You can either use the automatic update feature in the ‘Plugins’ section if you already have the WordPress slideshow gallery plugin installed or you can download it directly from WordPress.org by going here.

    Hi Antonie,

Best gallery out there for WP!

Still only one (or 2) thumbnails showing in Safari and Chrome (webkit) on Mac though?

Have to hardcode the width in gallery.js. Any thoughts?

    All the best!
    Toby

Thanks for the plugin Mr. Potgieter. You do excellent work. All I need to do now is to get my photos together.

  3. #3 by jan on January 15, 2010 - 5:52 am

for what ever reason your new css repositioned it on my page. It copied the old css from wrapper and it put everything back in it’s place. Thanks for fixing the fatal error… life is so much better now. : )

    #slideshow-wrapper { width:px; background:; padding:2px; border:; margin:25px auto; display:none; }
    #slideshow-wrapper * { margin:0; padding:0; }

Great plugin! Just what I was looking for. There are so many flash slideshows, but very few javascript ones. I much prefer javascript.

I do have one feature request.

On line 7 of views/default/gallery.php you ask for the full size image. It would be nice if there were an option to ask for other sizes (large, medium, thumbnail), since this will reduce the bandwidth for the images, and not rely on browser resizing of images. I tested it with “large” and it works great, and reduces each request on my website from the 100-200 KB range to 30-40 KB

WordPress 2.91, with the 1.0.5 plugin version. I do not see the tinymce buttons on my edit post or page screen to insert a slideshow. Any ideas?

The plugin installed fine, but I cannot see anything on the Configuration Settings page since upgrading to the latest version.

Hi there, I just downloaded your plug-in but there is not content on the configuration page. Any ideas why that might be? Cheers

  8. #8 by Andy Wright on January 19, 2010 - 9:46 am

    Hi

I would like to configure the gallery so that title and captions display outside the main image area, i.e do not obscure the image at all. Is this possible?

Ideally I would like the image, thumbnails, navigation to float left in a div, while the title and caption are to the right.

It is because you are running PHP4 on your site. The solution is to upgrade to PHP5.

    Hi!
I’m playing around with WordPress 2.9.1 on localhost installation and love your plugin. BUT, I cannot get it to work. No matter which version I try I can install it but as soon as I try to activate it wordpress goes bananas and I have to manually remove the plugin to get the site working again. Using WAMP. Any ideas?

  18. #18 by erz on February 7, 2010 - 12:46 am

    Thank you for your plugin!
It works great with my local MAMP-installation, but when I try to use it on my live page (containing the very same plugins and theme) the images do not load correctly. When clicking on the arrows sometime a picture is loaded, but not consistently.

Since this has been an issue with plugins in the past, I should add that I am running wordpress in a subfolder. Sometimes this confuses plugins that are looking for the ABSPATH.

You can find the nonworking gallery on http://kontextschmiede.de/galeriebilder/

Any thoughts on what causes the problem and how I could salvage the issue? Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
I would really love to use this plugin as I am having major conflicts with the FCG plug in.
But as soon as I activate it on my site the whole scree goes blank and just shows the backround colour.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Dave

This is a great plugin. I am wondering if there is a way to utilize just the thumbnails so that my gallery is only the thumbnails without individual picture transitions?

  21. #21 by Brandon on February 17, 2010 - 4:57 am

I guess I am not the only one having the IE link issue. This plugin is great but I will wait until the IE bug is ironed out I cant ignore half my audience.

    Thanks for the hard work.

    Hi Everyone:

I thought I would write this post since I encountered two common problems. I also provide a quick answer.

If your CONFIGURE tab is empty, you need to upgrade your linux server to PHP5.

If you paste your [slideshow] short code and it does not work, try using: [slideshow custom=1]

You can see my slide show running live on my homepage @ http://www.sterndesigners.com

    I really LOVE this plugin.

  23. #23 by Nigel Minchin on February 23, 2010 - 8:35 am

    Hi

love the plugin. I would like to use multiple times on a page, with different images each time. Can you think of a way to achieve this?

    Would appreciate the advice…

    thanks

    Nigel

Could you add some more instructions for excluding pictures? It doesn’t give an image an ID so I’m forced to put in the title or image.jpg and neither of them work.

I also had an issue with overlapping images which I fixed, the fix I did is here: http://cameronpreston.com/2010/02/slideshow-gallery-plugin-overlapped-image-fix/

  25. #25 by Cameron on February 26, 2010 - 6:03 pm

I went and found the attachment ID and followed the instructions and still it’s not working!

    [slideshow post_id="1888" exclude="1955"]

  26. #26 by Chris on March 1, 2010 - 5:51 am

    Hello,

I am also having the same trouble with Safari only showing the first two images when the slideshow is first loaded. Refreshing the page loads the slideshow correctly. (the slideshow actually loads the first time, but only the first two thumbnails will display until the page is refreshed)

I did also try hardcoding the width in gallery-css.php using min-width, but no lock there.

Toby, where in gallery.js are you hardcoding the slideshow width? I am not seeing where exactly to put that in.

    Great plugin.

  27. #27 by samwaulu on March 5, 2010 - 10:35 am

    Very nice plugin,thank You.

However, button for the slideshow in tinymce editor is missing. (manually inserted shortcode does work)
Did some digging and it appears that at some point javascript calls this file:
    wp-content/plugins/slideshow-gallery/js/tinymce/editor_plugin.js?ver=327-1235

Unfortunately the path/file does not exists at all.

This happens at least in WordPress 2.9 and 2.91, with the 1.0.5 and 1.0.4 plugin versions.

  28. #28 by erik on March 5, 2010 - 2:59 pm

    Hi,

Upgraded my plugin from 1.0.3 to 1.0.5. But now I’m getting some error related to the tadv_replace.js of the tinyMCE advanced plugin.

I have TinyMCE Advanced plugin v3.2.4 and using WP2.8.

    Any ideas?

  29. #29 by Doc on March 5, 2010 - 6:11 pm

How do you create the “multiple” slideshows or use the “each slideshow can display a different set of images” feature that the documentation talks about? I’m trying to use it on a page and if I just use the shortcode “slideshow” it does nothing and if I use “slideshow custom” I get the same slideshow each time, no matter what number I use for “custom=?”. Can I create slideshows that use different images or am I missing something?

  30. #30 by DanGarion on March 12, 2010 - 12:58 am

    Hello,

I installed this on my WordPress 2.9.2 and it broke TinyMCE.

I’m using the newest version of Google Chrome, so I’m not sure if it is an issue with using that, but I figured I would share. It looks like I’m not the only one.

  31. #31 by VS Dude on March 13, 2010 - 9:52 pm

The “order slides” function doesn’t seem to be working for me. I can drag them into the intended order but don’t see the results on the live site. Going back into the order slides screen shows them back in the original order.

  32. #32 by vpb on March 15, 2010 - 7:49 pm

slideshow(); ?> I put that in my index.php file and it all I see is slideshow(); ?> on my site, no slide show? The directions are not easy enough to understand by a newbie, could you maybe add a little more to them, I’d love to be able to use your awesome plugin? Thanks.

    Hi,

I’ve been trying to use your plugin on our site, and it works great! However, I have a problem. I can’t get it to work in Google Chrome. I see a black background and the navigation stuff, but no images. But when I look at your site the slidshow gallery works. Any ideas?

  34. #34 by Gayle on March 26, 2010 - 3:53 pm

    Hi,

The plugin works in IE and FF with WP2.9.2, but the images do not display. Why is it not finding the images? I used the full URL and the images get put in the gallery folder. HELP????

  35. #35 by Gretchen on March 27, 2010 - 10:25 pm

Is there any way to use this slideshow in a widget? The hard coding into my theme sidebar isn’t working. Thank you!

  36. #36 by Riccardo Benetti on March 29, 2010 - 3:11 pm

I would like to understand how do I add multiple galleries, because I have another site that has several galleries and still do not understand how they create or join existing ones to use the slideshow.

  37. #37 by Chris on March 29, 2010 - 8:50 pm

I’ve been having some issues with getting all of my thumbnails to show up in Safari. Currently, only two are showing up. I believe the div #slider in the gallery-css.php file is to blame, but whenever I try to alter it, it doesn’t take. I’ve even tried inserting an inline style. Is it a javascript issue? Anyone run into this before?

This might be a dumb question but this is my first WordPress site, go easy on me.

    Hi,

I am having this issue with the tinyMCE editor, its crashing because it cannot find the editor_plugin.js on the js folder.

Where do I download this file?

    I love the plug-in btw.

    Hello,

Is there any way to create custom sized slideshows per post, rather than using the plugin settings page? My images have a number of different ratios and it would be great to size them correctly for each post made.

    Thanks!

  41. #41 by Tom on April 13, 2010 - 8:50 pm

The first WordPress newsletter we used the plugin for it all went smoothly. Now with the updates to the posts we added galleries for each post that will use the gallery plugin … Here is the issue.

Some browsers work fine and others just show the thumbnails with no large images.?? Anyone experience this or know why this would happen?

  42. #42 by Lucas on April 16, 2010 - 7:35 am

Thanks for the great plugin. The widget works great but when I hardcode the provided script into index.php, the gallery show up on all pages. Is there a code I can add to have it only show on one page (the homepage) Thank you and keep up the good work.

This is a very nice slideshow. I recommand.

  44. #44 by Daniel on April 27, 2010 - 2:37 am

Great plugin! Got a question though:

Is there anyway to make the plugin randomize the order of the pictures automatically?

  45. #45 by capnhairdo on April 27, 2010 - 7:38 am

Nice little slideshow…simple and clean. Thanks!

    Several issues, though:

Shortag didn’t work for me until I tried [slideshow custom=1], as mentioned above (thanks brandon). What does that do?

What’s the post_id parameter you’re supposed to pass to the [slideshow] short tag?

Inserting a value of zero for “Navigation Default Opacity” breaks the plug-in…it no longer shows on the page. Besides fixing this, consider adding an option to hide navigation completely.

Would also be nice if there was a way to add slides any other way than inserting the URLs. Many people aren’t going to know how to upload images and insert the URL.

Would also be nice if the Title and Description weren’t required fields, especially if you’ve got them turned off, as I do.

Lastly, would be really nice if there was an option to randomize the images.

Just a few suggestions for an already very nice plug-in. Thanks again!

  46. #46 by capnhairdo on April 27, 2010 - 7:42 am

    Also…

Even if you don’t set a URL to link the images to, hovering over them still turns the mouse to a pointer, and you see a navigational icon indicating something will open in a new window, and clicking on the image appears to reload the page. None of this should happen if there’s no link set.

  47. #47 by capnhairdo on April 28, 2010 - 1:13 am

One last thing…every time I add or edit a slide, I see some SQL code flash for a second before the page updates. Probably an echo leftover from debugging.

  48. #48 by chaoskoeppsche on April 28, 2010 - 12:28 pm

    Hi. :)

    Nice plugin!

Am I too stupid or why couldnt I add more than 1 picture to a slide?

I use [ slideshow custom=1 ] – without spaces ;) – and if I use an folder path no images are displayed. if I use a direct link to an image this one is visible. :(

  49. #49 by mg on May 19, 2010 - 12:15 am

I just now found out another reason (apart from IE incompatibility) NOT to use this plugin. Anyone who had installed it should check his website with seo keyword analyzer. Depending on how many slides you use (the more the worse), your most popular keywords will probably be: slideshow, gallery, wp, content and such, e.g. keywords from your WP path to slideshow images. Unless you want to promote your website for such keywords, beware.
